Understanding the importance of higher education and for the purpose of creating awareness on the important international scholarships, Porsesh Research and Studies Organization (PRSO) in coordination with Ibn-e Sina University and the Chevening Program in Afghanistan, organized an event to introduce the Chevening Scholarship to the potential applicants, on 29 September, 2016. Chevening Scholarships are awarded to outstanding emerging leaders to pursue a one-year Master’s at any UK university.
In this program the SAHERO delivered an introductory presentation on the Chevening Scholarship Programme for Afghanistan, on behalf the Chevening Programme at the British Embassy in Kabul. The event also brought together the Chevening Alumi in Kabul to share their experience with the interested applicants for the 2017-18 cohort. Mustafa Ali Jamal, a Chevening Alumni who studied International Development at Kingston University and now working as Research and Development with the Afghanistan Investment Support Agency (AISA) talked on the various MA programs and also shared his experience as Chevening scholar in UK. Horun Najafizada, another Chevening Alumni and currently Journalist with the BBC also shared his experience and talked on his post-Chevening experience in Afghanistan.
The program received warm response and 137 potential applicants including men and women attended the event. The participants appreciated the organizers for the initiative. PRSO, in line with its mission of promoting research and evidence-based decision making, believes that creating awareness about capacity building opportunities is an important step towards introducing potential youth with the eminent universities and think-tanks.
